Monday 23/01/2017: Unfortunately, this is my last week in Chester for the moment. It will be a quite busy one with lots of farewells and hugs. Although I’m really looking forward to the following internship, I’m sad that I already have to leave Chester. However, surely the next five days will be evocative.
Tuesday 24/01/2017: The badminton team has marked the beginning of several moments of saying goodbye. I enjoyed the last session with lots of great rallyes. Afterwards, we went to the SU and I was flattered how many people came along to say goodbye. There were not only the guys of my team. Even most of the girls attended. It was a great evening and they made me almost cry. I hope Josh and Joe like my presents and I will meet them again in the future. I invited lots of my friends to Germany in the hope that at least a few will come and visit me. In the end, it sometimes felt like a polite but meaningless phrase but I always really meant it. I hope all of them noticed that.
Wednesday 25/01/2017: This morning the third and therefore last run took place. I wasn’t allowed to eat anything in the run-up which wasn’t a problem, initially. However, Sam and James organised a pub crawl starting at one o’clock. Considering this, it became a problem 😀
Well, at first I did the run which was allright. Afterwards, I went to the sports hall. Appropriately enough, this wednesday, just before my departure there were taken photographs of every sports group. So this was my final moment with the badminton team and I purchased two photos which are a great reminder.
Afterwards, I agreed with Sam to postpone the pub crawl for one hour. In this way, I was able to go home shortly, to eat something and to take a shower. About 2 o’clock I headed off to the SU, where Sam and James already waited for me.
I was really looking forward to this pub crawl and to have another great evening with these guys. Sam and James organised this tour perfectly. They made every imaginable effort and worked out an amazing tour with 22 (!) pubs (Initially, I was literally scared 😀 ) When Sam told me that even Ally and Harry would come along, I was flattered again. Besides, John, the boss of Sam and James of the Pied Bull joined us for 2 drinks.
Well, it was definitely one of the best days (and nights 😉 ) during my time in Chester. We didn’t manage all 22 pubs (Strangely enough not because of the alcohol but because of the time! Pubs in England are usually closing at 11pm) and so I even survived. After about 17 half-pints, we ended up in Rosies. I had a great time and I’m really grateful for having these friends. To be honest, I’ve never expected that I would get to know so many great people in Chester – after all I spent only 4 months there. Thank you all so much! It means a lot!
Thursday 26/01/2017: Last lecture today. To be honest, it was an awful one. I had a lot of trouble with following Ken, today. However, I said goodbye to Daniel, Ken and all of the guys of the Master programme. Especially after the Christmas meal, I felt like we would get along very well with each other. This makes my farewell much more sad. Well, I hope Tatjana will have a great time as my replacement and appreciate those guys although the programme is difficult for us.
After the lecture, I went to the Pied Bull again and said goodbye to Sam. He was working and didn’t attend the lecture, today. Tatjana accompanied me and so I enjoyed my last English stout (Yes, I know…alcohol again) for the moment. Surprisingly, it wasn’t even a problem. I easily got over the day before… Apparently, I’m used to these amounts of alcohol now. Actually that’s alarming…
Friday 27/01/2017: Today, I only packed my bags and left. Stephen also came by and so I could say goodbye tohim, Émeline, Jamie (He arrived the day before) and Holly (I think, I forgot to mention that: Roommate number 4. Actually a quite lovely puppy).
Sarah has been working and so I just messaged her. Jamie even gave me a lift to the station. That was really helpful. So I needn’t carry my cases…
In this way, at one o’clock a long journey back to germany began…
Saturday 28/01/2017: Sitting at the airport in Stansted right now, reading through 17 weeks and thinking about it, I’m pretty sure I will always keep those last four months and especially the last week in good memory. Particularly my British friends made it to an extraordinary experience. I was lucky to have two very different groups of people around me which gave me a distinguished glimpse into the British culture. I really appreciate that and hope, we will keep in touch! See you soon, hopefully!
Friday 03/02/2017: I’m flattered :.(
